What does a digital analyst do?
A digital analyst reads user behavior from numbers, works out what it means, and takes the problem to whoever can fix it. In this episode of Datadrivet, Joni Lindgren and Jasmin Yaya look at the role. It goes by several names: digital analyst, web analyst, app analyst.
User behavior never arrives as people, only as numbers in tables. The skill is interpretation: working out what the numbers say about how users move through the product. That takes knowing the interface well enough to connect a number back to a screen, a step, or the moment something went wrong.
The hosts call the analyst the user’s best friend. By watching the behavior closely over time, the analyst builds an intuition for where users struggle and what they are trying to do. The ideas for improvement come from that.
The analyst takes the problem to whoever the fix needs: a product owner, a copywriter, a UX designer, or a developer.
A good analyst works across team boundaries rather than handing a report over the wall. If the problem never reaches the person who can solve it, the analysis did not do its job.
